A Summary of 2019 in Three Words

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” (Rom 12:12)

As 2019 ends and a new year (and new decade) begins, I like to look back at the events and lessons of the previous year. I’ve mentioned before in this blog that I think it’s important to reflect on the past in order to move forward. Usually, this means a year-end evaluation of my goals or my word of the year.

This time, I’m trying something a little different. Recently, I read about choosing three words to summarize the year. While the article was written for married couples, I took away some important information that could apply more broadly to my own life. Continue reading “A Summary of 2019 in Three Words”

A Dog’s Confidence

“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” (2 Tim 1:7)

Lilly, my Yorkie, pranced across the living room floor, turning her head this way and that to show off the pretty bow the groomer had put next to her ear. Bold: My Word of the Year (Again)

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Josh 1:9)

Goals: Progress at Mid-Year

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jr 29:11)

Earlier this year, I wrote a blog post about my word for the year (BOLD) and how my goals fall in line with the word that God has placed on my heart. With the year almost half over, it seemed like a good time to evaluate my progress on meeting these goals and to analyze how God is moving boldly in my life. Be Bold

“What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Rom 8:31)

Each New Year’s Day, we make resolutions that we don’t keep. We have good intentions – to be more intentional or to lose weight – but inevitably, we give up after a few weeks. Only eight percent of us keep our resolutions. There are many reasons for this, including trying to make large changes without a fully-formed plan to make smaller changes along the way. Instead of looking at our setbacks as failures, we should use them as a catalyst to move forward. Continue reading “Be Bold”
