Restoring Lost Connections

“Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken…” (Ecc 4:12).

I used to believe that I would rather stay home and hide away from the world than interact with people, who can be unpredictable and judgmental.

In my early twenties, I put this belief to the test when I lived in a foreign country and did, indeed, rarely leave my home for a brief time. Because I didn’t know anyone at first, I was afraid to leave my apartment to go to the store or church alone. However, loneliness quickly set in, so I ventured out and made some very good friends that I still keep in touch with today. Continue reading “Restoring Lost Connections”

Praise Him with a Thankful Heart

“Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods” (Ps 95:2-3).

Each weekend, I gather with other believers to participate in our praise and worship service at church. On a few occasions, I’ve gone to special services that have been set up outside of the traditional service times and are just music and songs. I enjoy both traditional and contemporary music. Years ago, I attended a church with a wonderful blend of both old and new songs. There’s something to be said for traditional songs that were borne out of hardship and persecution. But I believe contemporary songs that built upon Scripture help reinforce God’s word through song have their own place as well. Continue reading “Praise Him with a Thankful Heart”

Thanksgiving Memories

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. (Psalm 100:4-5)

As a child, my family would load up in the car and either drive across town to my grandparents’ house for Thanksgiving or drive several miles into the country to eat with my one of my dad’s siblings. No matter which side of the family we gathered with, my brother and I always had plenty of cousins to play with. Continue reading “Thanksgiving Memories”

6th Annual Super Stocking Stuffer Giveaway Hop

Congratulations to Annette E. from Peoria, AZ, the winner of the blog hop giveaway!

Stocking stuffers have long been a tradition in my family. On Christmas morning, my brother and I would run into the living room to find what Santa had left under the tree. Then, we would turn to our stockings. From toothbrushes to candy to socks to books to gift cards, we always found a treasure trove of goodies. This tradition still continues in adulthood as my parents find fun items to put in our stockings.

This Christmas season, I’m joining The Kids Did It blog and The Mommy Island blog to participate in the Sixth Annual Super Stocking Stuffer Giveaway Hop, which runs from November 10, 2020, to December 1, 2020. The winner will receive a signed copy of Echoes of Joy: A Daily Devotional for Christmas and a $15 Amazon gift card.

Giving Thanks for the Small Things

This post was originally published on November 5, 2017.

“give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thess 5:18).

I carried the container of water to the front of the house, amazed that it was the end of October and still so warm. I poured the water on the pink periwinkles that had spread and taken over the container in which I had planted them. Periwinkles had never grown this well for me before.

I glanced down as a flash of hot pink caught my eye. A lone periwinkle poked its head through the crack in the sidewalk and flourished for all to see. I stopped watering and stared in amazement. Continue reading “Giving Thanks for the Small Things”
