So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. (1 Cor. 10:31)

Every July, I like to check in and see what kind of progress I’m making with my word for the year. Yes, I know it’s August—I’m behind. Which kind of sums up my year, I think.

My word for the year is purpose. In January, as the new year dawned, I was excited and a little anxious—how would God use this word in my life? I know my overall purpose is to obey him and give him the glory. But what new, deeper purpose would he reveal? What would my purpose require me to do? In what ways would I be challenged? Why I Write

“He is the one you praise; he is your God, who performed for you those great and awesome wonders you saw with your own eyes.” (Dt 10:21)

If you’ve followed me very long, then you know about my twisty writing journey. As a child, I enjoyed writing and even started a book called Just Say No when I was about eight. Apparently, I had taken to heart the message about staying away from drugs and wanted to convince others to do the same. As a teenager, I joined the school newspaper staff as a writer and then an editor, and I went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in mass communications. If there was something to be written, whether an article, academic paper, or novel, I wanted to know how to do it. Continue reading “Why I Write”

The hot days of summer bring back memories of childhood vacations: riding in the car for hours, listening to my brother sing Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA,” declaring war on my brother for crossing the invisible boundary separating us in the backseat, exploring the wonders of the West, and having adventures with family in Nevada.
