Update on Charlie Bones

And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. (Phil. 4:19)

In my last blog post, I wrote about how Charlie Bones played so hard that he ran into a doorframe, gave himself a concussion, and had to spend the night in the puppy ICU. (You can read that post here.) Five days after that, he started having symptoms again—wobbliness, lethargy, and sensitivity to touch. He hadn’t hit his head again, but we had gone for a short walk. I worried that I’d allowed him to do too much too soon, and back we went to the hospital for more tests.

The vet X-rayed his neck, but the results were inconclusive. She ran some other tests, checking for infection, and she did find a slight urinary tract infection. An antibiotic was added to the plethora of pills I had to give him each day.

After a week of very limited activity and no more symptoms, I took Charlie to his regular vet. She believes he compressed his spine when he ran into the doorframe. Too much movement can cause a nerve to pinch, which is why he started having symptoms again after our walk. She suggested a chiropractic maintenance treatment to realign his spine. As it turns out, she’s a board-certified chiropractic vet and specializes in his type of injury. I didn’t even know such a thing existed.

This goes to show how God knows what we need before we need it. I had no idea that almost six months after I got Charlie that he would have a severe head injury and would need chiropractic treatments to relieve the pressure on his spine. But God did. Of all the vets I could have picked, I chose the one who specializes in the exact treatment that Charlie needs.

Charlie is an active dog and may need ongoing chiropractic treatments. It will really depend on how often he hits his head and how often the nerves in his neck pinch, but as active as he is, I can see him needing this sort of help on a regular basis. If he’s not bumping into things, he’s frantically tossing his head as he plays with his toys.

Thankfully, I now know what to do for him if his spine gets out of alignment and he starts having more symptoms again. I’m so grateful that God has provided a solution for a long, healthy life for my sweet, hyper Charlie Bones.

Dear Jesus, thank you for bringing Charlie’s vet into his life before I knew I would need one with her special skill set. I pray for continued healing for Charlie and for all those who need similar provision from you. Please meet their needs before they even ask, and help us to remember to give you the glory when you provide. Amen.

  1. Charlie Bones, the cutest puppy ever. God takes care of alp creatures great and small.

  2. Dogs get injured just like humans and need rest and recuperation. I’ve got to remember that when I am feeling poorly, God intended for me to take time and rest.
