If my grandma Rena were still with us, she would have turned 100 on September 1. I could tell you story after story about her and her love for life and her fun personality. As a child, I looked forward to the first day of school every year. I was one of those rare kids who absolutely loved school. For me, the start of school signaled several things: friends; sports; sweater-weather; learning more cool stuff; and my birthday, which was always on or around the first day of school. Even as an adult, I’ve continued my life-long love of learning by earning advanced degrees and attending workshops and webinars as often as possible.

I stayed at my parents’ house recently while they went to visit my brother and his wife in Georgia. Lilly watched the door faithfully, and any noise from that direction of the house caused her to run as quickly as possible to see what was happening. She waited in anticipation for my parents to come through the door, and when they didn’t, she would go back to her spot on the couch, her eyes trained on the door, believing they would come through at any moment.
