Echoes of Joy: A Daily Devotional for Christmas

Blurb

Echoes of Joy: A Daily Devotional for Christmas is the second volume in the Echoes of Joy devotional series by author Staci Mauney. Containing 25 devotionals, this book will inspire and encourage you during this busy season. Each devotional contains a Bible verse and prayer along with a story from the author’s life or a lesson learned that will point you toward Jesus.

From playing an angel in a Christmas program to struggling through the holidays after divorce to finding hope in unlikely places, this book features stories from the author’s own life as she explores the lessons learned at Christmas which apply all year long.

During this time of year, we find that emotions are magnified – both good and bad – and that our busy schedules rob us of our joy. The short entries in this book will allow you to focus on Jesus and remember why we celebrate this season. You will find messages of joy, hope, and perseverance throughout this devotional written with you in mind. As you look toward Christmas and into the New Year, let the messages contained inside this book move you into God’s presence.

Day 7

Snowed In

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble…” (Ps 46:1)

Like many across the country, our area of Oklahoma occasionally receives snow during the winter. Usually, a few inches of snow will fall and then melt within a few hours. Several years ago, a strong winter storm hit our area. Blizzard warnings were issued and whiteout conditions existed for much of the afternoon and evening on Christmas Day.

When the storm was over, Lilly, my Yorkshire terrier, refused to go outside for more than ten seconds. The cold! The wind! The snow! It was all too unusual and frightening. The snow didn’t melt after a few hours, and she realized it wasn’t going away. She began to venture farther out into it and for longer periods of time – for thirty seconds, then one minute, then two. Finally, on day four of having a snow-covered backyard, she began to play and explore freely in the snow. She began to forge new paths – as if maybe this wasn’t such a bad thing after all.

Many times, we are like Lilly when confronted with something unknown. So many times, I have let the fear of the unknown hold me back when I should turn my fear over to God. Instead of forging ahead and living life to the fullest, I hesitate and possibly miss out on what could be a wonderful blessing that the Lord has in store for me. I pray that as the New Year approaches, we will reach out with both hands for the life that the Lord has for us – the life Jesus died to give us – and begin living our lives with freedom and boldness in Christ.

Dear Jesus, help me not to let the fear of the unknown stop me from receiving a blessing from you. Help me to live my life fully in your freedom and grace. Amen.

  1. My favorite memory was when I was a kid and wanted TMNT so bad. All my friends had them but me. That one year, everything I got was the Ninja Turtles and I was the happiest kid ever. Never forgot it either

  2. Favorite memory as a kid was going to my Gram’s in Northern MI every year for the holidays and celebrating in her little town that had an amazing celebration.

  3. My favorite Christmas memory is my mom and dad reading from the bible. We all had either cocoa or tea and just all of us being together.

  4. My favorite Christmas memory was getting a Game Cube from my parents when I was in the second grade. My brothers and I were so excited! My parents really surprised us that year!

  5. My favorite Christmas memory is the time Santa left cash in my stocking. We never had big Christmases, but that year was really special. There were 5 $20 bills fanned out in my stocking — I was thrilled! Looking back, I realize how much my mom must have sacrificed that year.
