I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. (Ps. 77:11)
Happy twelfth birthday to my Yorkie companion, Lilly!
Lilly came to me when she was six months old. She’d been given to my brother and his wife, who couldn’t keep her, so she ended up with me. I don’t have any papers on her, so I don’t know her exact date of birth. The vet estimated that she was born about six months before I got her, which would put her birthday some time in October. So we celebrate for the entire month!
As I celebrate Lilly’s birthday this month, I’m taking a look back at twelve of my favorite memories of her in honor of her twelve years of life.
- Lilly’s gotcha day!
- Lilly playing with my brother and sister-in-law’s dogs, Zeke and Tickles
- Eight o’clock treat time that slowly became seven and now sometimes six thirty
- Walks—through the neighborhood, around town, in the park, in the yard
- Lilly playing with her tiny, squeaky, plush elephant or monkey
- Lilly riding around town in my dad’s pickup
- Lilly sitting at my mom’s feet on the recliner
- Taking selfies with Lilly
- Lilly asking for peanut butter, which hides her daily arthritis medication
- Road trips with Lilly stretching her tiny legs to see out the window
- Snuggling with Lilly in her blankets
- All the lessons God has taught me through her.
Dear Jesus, thank you for all the years you’ve let me spend with Lilly. I’m praising you for more to come. Help me continue to learn from her. Amen.
